Los Angeles Rams at Carolina Panthers

-,Quarterback Jared Goff, who signed a four-year extension this week, and the Rams are anxious to get back on the field to eliminate the lasting impact of losing to the Patriots in the Super Bowl to end the 2018 season. The roster underwent some significant changes, subtracting key defenders in defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and safety Lamarcus Joyner, but filling a few vacancies on that side of the ball (pass rusher Clay Matthews, safety Eric Weddle). Sean McVay’s offense brings back most of its explosive personnel, while running back Todd Gurley gets his first test since the late-season revelation he’s dealing with an arthritic knee condition. ,Not all of them are household names, but the Carolina Panthers expect big things from their offense anchored by quarterback Cam Newton and running back Christian McCaffrey. Newton plans to play through a foot sprain which could limit his mobility against L.A.’s superfreeway pass rush spearheaded by Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. However, coach Ron Rivera doesn’t expect to hold back Newton, who has the arm to strike quickly to his outside targets if his offensive line holds up to a massive opening challenge.Â
