Liverpool Odds Against Manchester United
Liverpool host rivals Manchester United where the league leaders can increase their lead at the top of the table to 16 points.
Liverpool won a closely fought contest against Tottenham 1-0 in their last outing to stretch their winning streak to 12 games. A sole Roberto Firmino goal was enough for the visitors to snatch three points and amass 61 points from their opening 21 Premier League games; a total no other team in Europe has amassed from their opening 21 league games.
Liverpool is on a historic run and are also currently on a 38-match unbeaten streak and are just 11 games off Arsenal’s historic 49-match unbeaten streak in the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons.
However, they next come up against the only team this season to take points from them in the league; Manchester United.
In the opposing fixture in October, Liverpool snatched a draw through a late equalizer by Adam Lallana, a result that remains Liverpool’s only non-win in the Premier League this season.
Manchester United can play up to Liverpool despite whatever form they’re in and with three wins in their last four league games, United have confidence and will prove to be difficult opposition at Anfield.
Liverpool Odds to Keep it Going Against Man U
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cooled down reports of a managerial change at Old Trafford with a recent upturn in form with wins over Newcastle, Burnley and Norwich City in their last four games. United have cut their deficit to Chelsea in fourth place to five points and they’ll be looking to get a result at Anfield, a place no Premier League team has gotten points at this season.
Looking at previous meetings between the two clubs, you can’t separate them. In their last six league meetings, Liverpool has won one, lost one and tied four, including the last two league meetings.
Liverpool could have Fabinho back for the weekend after he’s returned to training after a month out while United still have Paul Pogba out after recent surgery.
Sportsbooks odds on a 13th straight league win for Liverpool open at -250, making them favorites. Odds on Manchester United securing the three points open at +600, according to sportsbooks. Odds on the third tie in a row open at +375.
Can Liverpool Go Unbeaten This Season?
Just over half the season is over and Liverpool remain without a loss. A record of 20 wins in 21 games is a stunning achievement for the Merseyside club but don’t be mistaken that their end goal is not a record, it’s the Premier League trophy.
It’s the sole trophy Liverpool hasn’t won and while they remain on track with a 13-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand, an ‘Invincibles’ season is also on the horizon.
Arsenal is the only club in the history of English football to go a league season unbeaten and Liverpool is on track to match that alongside bettering Arsenal’s point total of 90 points.
Liverpool’s hardest fixture of the season, however, is yet to come and that is on April 4th, away to Manchester City. Should they remain unbeaten until then, this match-up could decide the title race and quite possibly history.
