Kent State Golden Flashes Preview

The Kent State Golden Flashes had a difficult February, going 2-5, although they did open March with an 83-69 home victory over 21-game winner Bowling Green on Senior Night on Tuesday. The Flashes shot 50 percent from the field in the win and look to carry momentum on the road, where they are 5-8.  

Junior Danny Pippen is coming off his seventh double-double of the season (24 points, 10 rebounds) and is second on the team in scoring (14.1 points per game) while leading the squad in rebounding (7.1 per game). This is an experienced team with four seniors in the playing rotation, including leading scoring Antonio “Booman” Williams, who contributes 14.7 points per game. 

Akron Zips Preview

The Akron Zips will try to wrap up solo first place in the MAC East after reaching the driver’s seat by rallying to beat Ohio 74-67 on Tuesday. Akron has won seven of eight games after losing 68-67 at rival Kent State on Jan. 31. The long-range shot is a key part of Akron’s arsenal, as the Zips rank second in the MAC in 3-point attempts (769) and in accuracy (36.3 percent).  

Loren Cristian Jackson is a diminutive dynamo who averages 20 points, makes 43.5 percent of his 3-point tries and hands out 4.5 assists per game. Dayton transfer Xeyrius Williams can post up or stretch the floor, averaging 9.4 rebounds and attempting 214 3-pointers, although he has made only 29.4 percent from long distance.
