Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans – week 2

Jacksonville Jaguars Odds

While the left collarbone injury sustained by quarterback Nick Foles in the first quarter of his first game with the franchise could undermine the Jaguars’ hopes for a bounceback campaign, rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II did provide a ray of hope with his sterling performance off the bench against the Kansas City Chiefs (22-of-25, 275 yards, two touchdowns). What could prove more problematic for Jacksonville are the injuries on its defensive front: Calais Campbell (foot) and Yannick Ngakoue (hamstring) were dinged against the Chiefs while Marcell Dareus (elbow) sat, and all three were on the injury report. The Jaguars are looking to reclaim the rugged defensive identity that escaped them last year, and after surrendering 491 yards in the opener, entering the matchup against the Texans hobbled on defense is a serious concern. ,

Houston Texans odds

The Texans missed defensive end Jadeveon Clowney in their first game after trading the former No. 1 overall pick to Seattle just prior to the start of the season, notably defensive end J.J. Watt, who did not show up on the stat sheet following a 30-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was present and accounted for, however, with eight receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the opener. Hopkins ran roughshod against the Jacksonville secondary in Week 17 last season, tallying a career-high 12 receptions for 147 yards in a 20-3 victory. Watt wreaked havoc in that game as well with three sacks, four quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, two passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and eight total tackles (five solo). The Texans won both meetings in 2018 by a combined score of 40-10. ,
