Houston Texans Odds

Three times in 28 career games, Deshaun Watson has thrown for five touchdowns with no interceptions, including last week’s win over Atlanta. Watson has thrown one pick this year, in the third quarter of the season opener against New Orleans. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Watson were first-round picks in the 2017 draft, going 10th and 12th overall, respectively. This marks their first individual showdown. The Texans’ leading rusher, Carlos Hyde (310 yards, 4.2 average), was signed by the Chiefs in March, then traded in late August. Houston’s defense has just two interceptions, though safety Tashaun Gipson scored on a 79-yard pick-six against Atlanta. Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel was head coach for the Chiefs in 2012, going 2-14 the year before Andy Reid arrived in Kansas City.

Kansas City Chiefs Odds

Veteran tackle Terrell McClain was signed to help fill in along the thinned defensive front. The ninth-year pro played for Atlanta in 2018, recording 17 tackles and one sack. Another veteran lineman, Stefan Wisniewski, was signed for the same purpose offensively. The Chiefs will likely be without defensive linemen Chris Jones (groin) and Xavier Williams (ankle), and offensive linemen Eric Fisher (groin) and Andrew Wylie (ankle). Tight end Travis Kelce dismissed a sideline scuffle he had with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy during last week’s loss to Indianapolis as a flareup attributable to the nature of football. Patrick Mahomes has attempted 202 consecutive passes without an interception. Two games in 10 days will challenge the depleted Chiefs, who have a Thursday appearance in Denver next week.
