New York Guardians at Dallas Renegades

New York Guardians Preview

Coming off a much-needed win last week, the New York Guardians (2-2) look to nab their first road victory when they visit Dallas on Saturday. It’s unclear who will start at quarterback for the Guardians, who saw Matt McGloin and Luis Perez split reps this week after McGloin missed Saturday’s 17-14 win over Los Angeles with an injury.

Perez, a former professional bowler who taught himself to play quarterback and worked his way up from the JUCO level in college, finished 18 of 26 for 150 yards and a touchdown against the Wildcats. McGloin has struggled in three appearances, going 31 of 59 for 310 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions.

Dallas Renegades Preview

The Dallas Renegades (2-2) likely will go back to No. 2 quarterback Philip Nelson on Saturday against New York, with starter Landry Jones out injured. Jones threw three interceptions, lost a fumble that became a touchdown and then aggravated his left knee injury — originally sustained in training camp — in last week’s 27-20 loss to Houston. He will miss at least two weeks.

Nelson went 33 of 42 for 218 yards and an interception in the Feb. 9 opener, then finished 1 of 3 for 11 yards last week, leading a late drive near the goal line before a dropped screen pass was ruled a lateral and a fumble. His top target should be tight end Donald Parham, who has 273 receiving yards (second among all XFL players) and four touchdowns in four games.
