Gonzaga Bulldogs Preview

The Gonzaga Bulldogs carry a 16-game winning streak and the nation’s most prolific offense into Moraga, Calif., for a showdown with West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary’s. The Zags are averaging 88.5 points per game behind a balanced offense.

Seven Bulldogs average double-figure points, led by Filip Petrusev’s 17.2 points per game, and a seventh — Drew Timme — posts 9.9 points per game. Since Dec. 18, Gonzaga has scored fewer than 85 points just twice. The most recent occurrence in an 83-79 win Feb. 1 at San Francisco, the closest contest the Bulldogs faced since an 84-80 win at Arizona on Dec. 14.

Saint Mary’s Gaels Preview

Saint Mary’s teams under coach Randy Bennett typically have been known for defensive prowess, but the 2019-20 Gaels face high-scoring Gonzaga boasting an impressive offense of their own. Saint Mary’s ranks No. 10 nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency per KenPom.com, and the Gaels average 76.8 points per game.

The outstanding 3-point-shooting trio of Jordan Ford, Malik Fitts and Tanner Krebs set the pace, with all three connecting on better than 40 percent of their 100-plus attempts. The Gaels avoided back-to-back losses when they pulled away late for a 66-60 win at San Diego on Thursday. BYU handed Saint Mary’s its fourth single-digit-point loss of the season on Feb. 1, 81-79.
