Georgetown Hoyas Preview

Georgetown heads into a visit to Butler on Saturday coming off a 76-72 win at DePaul, the Hoyas’ second close Big East win in their past three games. Georgetown knocked off St. John’s 73-72 on Feb. 2. The Hoyas have not won back-to-back conference games yet this season, however, and they fell to Butler at home in the initial meeting, 69-64 on Jan. 28.

The Bulldogs’ Sean McDermott hit 7 of 10 3-point attempts in that one, reflecting a larger, season-long struggle for the Hoyas: They rank among the nation’s worst in opponents’ 3-point shooting at 35.4 percent. Georgetown shoots 33.9 percent from outside but just 48.6 percent inside the arc.

Butler Bulldogs Preview

Since their win over Georgetown on Jan. 28, the Butler Bulldogs have gone one down, one up over the past four contests in Big East play. The trend has the Bulldogs three games behind Seton Hall for the conference lead with six games to go.

Leading scorer Kamar Baldwin (16.1 points per game) has averaged 4.2 assists per game over Butler’s past six contests. He also is 7-for-16 from 3-point range in the past three game, well above his season average of making just one trey per game. Sean McDermott, who torched Georgetown for 25 points in the prior meeting, led the Bulldogs with 14 points and six rebounds in a 66-61 win over Xavier on Wednesday.
