Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks
Detroit Red Wings Preview
The reeling Detroit Red Wings began the new calendar year with an all-too-familiar result: a loss. The Red Wings, in fact, have dropped 19 of their last 22 games (3-17-2) and have an NHL-low 23 points heading into Sunday’s road game against the Original Six-rival Chicago Blackhawks. Dylan Larkin scored his 10th goal of the season and second in four contests early in the first period before it was all downhill for Detroit in Friday’s 4-1 setback in Dallas.
The 23-year-old, who resides two goals shy of 100 in his career, tallied twice and had an assist in the Red Wings’ 5-4 overtime loss to Chicago on Feb. 20 of last season. Larkin’s 16 assists this season have him tied with Tyler Bertuzzi for the team lead.
Chicago Blackhawks Preview
The Chicago Blackhawks look to rebound from a recent misstep and get back on track Sunday when they open a four-game homestand at the reeling Detroit Red Wings. Patrick Kane scored two goals for the second consecutive contest on Thursday, but the Blackhawks fell for just the second time in their last seven games in a 7-5 setback versus Vancouver.
The former Hart Trophy recipient leads Chicago in goals (24) and assists (29) this season and has decimated Detroit in the past (42 points in 47 career games). Captain Jonathan Toews scored and set up a goal versus Vancouver, giving him six points (three goals, three assists) in his last six games.
