Connecticut Huskies at SMU Mustangs
Connecticut Huskies Preview
After consecutive career-high scoring performances that led the UConn Huskies to upset wins over Tulsa and Cincinnati last week, freshman guard James Bouknight was named the AAC Player of the Week. Bouknight, from Brooklyn, N.Y., followed his 22-point performance against then-first place Tulsa (19 in the second half) in the Huskies’ first true road win of the season with a 23-point game against then-first place Cincinnati.
He had 19 points in the second half and overtime. UConn avenged a double-digit loss earlier this season to Cincinnati and an overtime defeat to Tulsa. Fellow freshmen Akok Akok and Jalen Gaffney have also cracked the starting lineup, marking the first time the Huskies have started three freshmen since the 2010-11 season.
