Chelsea Odds Preview Against Nottingham Forest
Chelsea host Championship club Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup this Sunday. Chelsea is coming off a disappointing 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion during mid-week. Chelsea last won the FA Cup in the 2017/18 season when Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Manchester United.
They reached the fifth round last year before being beaten 2-0 by United in a revenge fixture. Chelsea met their current opponents Nottingham Forest in last year’s third round in a repeat of this fixture. Chelsea came out on top last year in a 2-0 win where former striker Alvaro Morata bagged both goals.
It’s a different year for both clubs with a variety of changes. Chelsea allowed Maurizio Sarri to leave to manage Juventus with club legend and record goal-scorer Frank Lampard now at the helm of the club. Eden Hazard left the club in a club-record £130 million deal with Real Madrid sounding an end of an era for Chelsea.
Chelsea now has a core of youth players at the forefront of the club. Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James are the future of Chelsea and have been given the license to play regularly by Frank Lampard who in turn has been rewarded by his youngsters’ good play as they currently sit fourth in the Premier League.
Nottingham Forest has also faced an array of changes over the past year, having had a total of three managers last year (Aitor Karanka, Martin O’Neill and current manager Sabri Lamouchi).
The club finished ninth last year, missing out on the playoffs and sit fifth this year, level on points with third-placed with Brentford with a game in hand.
Forest enters the game on a three-match winning streak, defeating Hull City, Wigan and Blackburn Rovers.
In their last six meetings, Chelsea has won all six with three of those fixtures coming in the FA Cup.
Sportsbooks odds on a home Chelsea win open at -800, making them overwhelming favorites. Odds on an away Forest win open at +1400, according to sportsbooks. Odds on the full-time result being a draw opens at +800.
What Are Chelsea Odds to Win a Trophy This Season?
With the Premier League seemingly out of the question and getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Manchester United, that leaves two competitions for Frank Lampard’s men; the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.
The Blues face German champions Bayern Munich in the knockout stages of the Champions League; a fixture Chelsea are heavy underdogs. That leaves the FA Cup.
Chelsea has won the FA Cup eight times, the third-highest amount in the history of the trophy, only behind Manchester United and Arsenal. Lampard himself has won the trophy four times with Chelsea.
He will be hoping his young squad can go on a cup run and build a new dynasty at Stamford Bridge.
