Chelsea Odds Against Manchester United
Chelsea host Manchester United upon the return of the Premier League after the two-week winter break.
Both clubs were winless in their last league matches and are desperately in need of a win. Chelsea is without a win in their last three league games and drew 2-2 with Leicester City in their last outing. Manchester United are also without a win in their last three league games and drew 0-0 with Wolves in what was an uninspiring performance at Old Trafford that also spelled the debut of new man Bruno Fernandes.
United, however, are in dire straits having been goalless in three straight league games with 2-0 defeats to Liverpool and Burnley as well as their goalless draw against Wolves. Despite their recent struggles, they’re not far from the top four places as a win against Chelsea who currently sits in third could put them just three points behind Chelsea.
Chelsea has the opportunity to increase their gap from the likes of United, Wolves, Sheffield United and Tottenham as they face Spurs a week after their fixture against Man United. While they haven’t struggled with goals, top scorer Tammy Abraham who’s netted 14 league goals this season has scored just once in his last five and could be a cause for concern, especially regarding his injury problems this season.
Chelsea Odds While Dealing with Abraham
Chelsea would be correct in monitoring Abraham closely considering the three huge games at Stamford Bridge Chelsea are hosting. After their league games against top-four rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, they host German champions Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie.
A positive for Chelsea is that midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is close to making his return after a long layoff. The England international has been taking part in training with the first team since their 2-1 win over Hull City in the FA Cup.
Chelsea’s recent record against Manchester United doesn’t spell for good reading. In their last six league meetings, Chelsea has won just once, lost three times and tied twice. They’ve already lost twice to United this season, 4-0 on the opening day of the season and 2-1 at home in the Carabao Cup.
Sportsbooks odds of a Chelsea home win open at -120, making them favorites. Odds on Man United beating Chelsea for a third time this season opens at +320, according to sportsbooks. Odds on a tie between the two sides open at +260.
When Will We See the Return of Christian Pulisic?
Pulisic suffered an adductor injury during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on the 1st of January. He suffered a setback in training two weeks ago and has been unavailable since.
Frank Lampard gave the latest updates on Pulisic’s scheduled return.
“We tried to get him out there last week, step it up a little bit, but we had to pull out of that. The break might have come at a good time, it buys us a couple of weeks.
“Of course, you miss him. He’s a quality player and he was having a really good patch pre-Christmas.
“Others have to stand up too, but of course we’ll be happy when he’s back.”
