It’s clear that running back Christian McCaffrey is on a record-setting pace through the first five games of the season. But the Panthers are taking pride in their ability to spread out the production. The rushing attack last week included McCaffrey’s 174 yards and another 80 yards from Reggie Bonnafon, who collected 16 yards per attempt on his five carries. “We have something special in the running back’s room,” McCaffrey said. “It starts with (running backs) Coach (Jake) Peetz, he gets us going. He’s an unbelievable coach. We got a lot of guys that are just really bought in, and I think that’s when it’s special. You see what happens.” McCaffrey sat out Wednesday’s practice with a sore back, but is expected to be ready to resume his league-leading rushing pace Sunday.

The Buccaneers are dealing with lineup adjustments after their first five games of the season. These are coming out of necessity. They were down to three available linebackers in last week’s loss to New Orleans. Some of that should be remedied with Devin White back in action for the Carolina game. On offense, right guard Alex Cappa suffered a broken arm in second quarter last week and finished the game and will miss a few weeks. Right tackle Demar Dotson exited with a hamstring injury. Josh Wells will slide into a starting role. “You can’t make excuses, but we’ll have a new right side of our line this week,” coach Bruce Arians said.
