Montreal Canadiens Preview

The Montreal Canadiens aim to regain their footing on Wednesday when they open a two-game road trip against the Boston Bruins. The Canadiens had won nine of 12 contests to move up the Eastern Conference standings and scored two quick goals in the first period before dropping a 3-2 decision to Arizona on Monday.

Brendan Gallagher scored his fourth goal in seven games since returning from a head injury for Montreal, which posted a 5-4 win over Boston on Nov. 5 before dropping an 8-1 decision to the Bruins three weeks later and a 3-1 setback at Boston on Dec. 1. Tomas Tatar, who leads the team in goals (20) and assists (32), has 17 (four goals, 13 assists) of his 52 points in his last 16 games.

Boston Bruins Preview

The Boston Bruins look to rebound from a loss to one Original Six rival on Wednesday when they face another in the visiting Montreal Canadiens. The NHL-leading Bruins saw their six-game winning streak come to a halt on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 setback to Detroit, a defeat that was their second this season to the league’s worst team.

David Pastrnak set up defenseman Torey Krug’s tally early in the third period of that contest for his team-leading 78th point. The 23-year-old Pastrnak has scored five of his career high-tying 38 goals this season against Montreal, including a hat trick in Boston’s 8-1 romp on Nov. 26.
