Boston Bruins Preview

The Boston Bruins bid to complete a three-game season sweep of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday afternoon when the clubs reconvene in the Steel City. The Bruins answered a pair of demoralizing defeats with a strong performance in Thursday’s 4-1 victory over the visiting Penguins. Brad Marchand scored in that contest and had two goals and three assists in Boston’s 6-4 win over Pittsburgh on Nov. 4. Linemates David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron have also fared well in both encounters.

Pastrnak, who leads the team in goals (36) and points (68), has one goal and three assists in the season series. Bergeron has tallied in each meeting with the Penguins to boost his goal total to 20, marking the seventh straight season in his career that he has reached that plateau.

The Pittsburgh Penguins look to avert a three-game series sweep at the hands of the Boston Bruins on Sunday afternoon when the clubs face off in the Steel City. Captain Sidney Crosby converted 24 seconds into Pittsburgh’s 4-1 setback in Boston on Thursday before scoring a power-play goal 1:33 into overtime the following night in a 2-1 victory versus Detroit.

The two-time Hart Trophy recipient has three goals and three assists in three games since returning from a two-month absence because of a core muscle injury. Michigan native Bryan Rust collected a goal and an assist against the Red Wings, boosting his point total to 17 (seven goals, 10 assists) in his past 12 games. The Penguins are 9-2-1 in that stretch.
