Boston Bruins Preview
The Boston Bruins bid to strengthen their hold atop the Atlantic Division on Tuesday when they visit the second-place Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bruins have won 13 of their last 16 games overall and seven of their past nine on the road to build a seven-point lead on the Lightning. Boston began its current three-game trek with a 4-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday afternoon.
David Pastrnak, who scored his NHL-leading 47th goal against the Islanders, collected two goals and an assist in the Bruins’ 4-3 shootout loss to Tampa Bay on Oct. 17. Linemate Patrice Bergeron had a goal and an assist in that game and also tallied in a road 3-2 setback to the Lightning on Dec. 12.
Tampa Bay Lightning Preview
The Tampa Bay Lightning aim to cut into Boston Bruins’ seven-point lead atop the Atlantic Division on Tuesday when the teams square off in Florida. The Lightning snapped a season-high, four-game losing skid with a 4-3 victory over Calgary on Saturday.
Reigning Hart Trophy recipient Nikita Kucherov had a pair of assists to extend his point streak to 19 games (14 goals, 17 assists). The 26-year-old also set up a pair of goals in Tampa Bay’s 3-2 victory over Boston on Dec. 12. Reigning Vezina Trophy recipient Andrei Vasilevskiy improved to 4-4-1 with one shutout in nine career meetings with the Bruins after turning aside 61 of 66 shots in two victories this season.
