St. Louis BattleHawks at Houston Roughnecks

St. Louis BattleHawks Preview

The St. Louis BattleHawks look to stay undefeated in their home opener on Sunday in a battle of 1-0 teams. The Battlehawks won 15-9 at Dallas last week, riding 85 rushing yards from former Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones and 286 total yards (77 rushing) from former Ole Miss quarterback Jordan Ta’amu.

Jones’ 21 carries and 85 yards were both league highs in Week 1, with Ta’amu’s rushing yardage ranking third among all players. St. Louis’ defense piled up four sacks, six tackles for loss and an interception in the win, with former Baltimore Raven and New York Giants safety Will Hill grabbing the pick in the final seconds to seal the win.

Houston Roughnecks Preview

P.J. Walker and the Houston Roughnecks hope to build on an electric inaugural performance as they host the BattleHawks in Week 2 on Sunday. Walker carved up Los Angeles last week, throwing for 272 yards and four touchdowns — both highs among all XFL players — in a 37-17 victory, after which the Wildcats fired their defensive coordinator.

Walker also chipped in 26 rushing yards. He spread the ball around, with four players catching at least four passes, led by Cam Phillips’ four grabs for 67 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown. Houston’s defense wasn’t too shabby, either, collecting five sacks, including two by linebacker LaTroy Lewis.
