Colorado Avalanche at New York Rangers

Colorado Avalanche Preview

The Colorado Avalanche sport a Western Conference-best 14 road wins as well as 11 victories versus Eastern Conference adversaries, but an uncharacteristic lack of offense prevented them from improving upon those numbers Monday. The Avalanche bid to avenge a 1-0 setback to the New York Islanders when they conclude their three-game trek against the New York Rangers on Tuesday.

Nathan MacKinnon was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week on Monday afternoon, but the former top overall pick failed to dent the scoresheet later that night. MacKinnon, who will skate in his 500th career game on Tuesday, joined Mikko Rantanen and captain Gabriel Landeskog in collecting two goals and two assists in a pair of meetings with the Rangers in 2018-19.

The New York Rangers will look to a new face in their bid to snap their three-game losing streak in Tuesday’s home encounter against the Colorado Avalanche. Promising goaltender Igor Shesterkin has been confirmed to make his NHL debut after being summoned from Hartford of the American Hockey League, with which the 24-year-old Russian posted a sizzling 15-4-3 record, three shutouts and an AHL-best 1.93 goals-against average in 23 games.

At the other end of the ice, Pavel Buchnevich scored in the first period of Saturday’s 2-1 setback versus Vancouver. Fellow forward Artemi Panarin, who leads the team in goals (22) and assists (33), has collected 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 13 career meetings against the Avalanche.
