San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks

San Francisco 49ers Preview

The 49ers’ celebration after knocking the defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams out of the
playoffs with a 34-31 victory last Saturday was muted as third-string QB C.J. Beathard’s younger
brother, Clayton, was fatally stabbed earlier in the day at a Nashville bar. QB Jimmy Garoppolo
converted a pair of third-and-16 plays to set up Robbie Gould’s winning 33-yard field goal with no time
left.
The 49ers had failed on 50 straight third downs when needing at least 16 yards since last doing it in
Week 3 in 2017. RB Raheem Mostert has a rushing touchdown in each of the past five games, the
first 49ers player to do so since Derek Loville had a six-game streak in 1995. DE Dee Ford, one of the
49ers’ top pass rushers, is expected to miss one more game with a hamstring injury.

Seattle Seahawks Preview

Newly signed RB Marshawn Lynch averaged 4.2 yards per carry last season with Oakland before
suffering a season-ending core muscle injury. RB Robert Turbin rushed for 928 yards over his
previous three-season stint with Seattle. Coach Pete Carroll said DE Jadeveon Clowney (core) and
CB Shaquill Griffin (hamstring) both intend to play against the 49ers.
LT Jamarco Jones, who replaced the injured Duane Brown last week, allowed four sacks by Arizona’s
Chandler Jones. The Seahawks allowed a season-worst 253 yards rushing against the Cardinals,
with Kenyan Drake going for 166 and two TDs. Seattle is 31-7 following a regular-season loss since
Russell Wilson became the QB in 2012.
