Los Angeles FC vs Toronto FC

09/21/19, 22:30 PM Kick-Off (ET)

2019/20 MLS Season Week 29

MLS Game of the Week Odds: Los Angeles FC v Toronto FC Odds

Toronto FC can edge one step closer to the MLS Cup playoffs with a win away to Los Angeles FC, the far and away leaders of the Western Conference and the side who own the best overall record in the MLS.

Toronto was unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions before losing to Montreal Impact in the first leg of the Canadian Championship final 1-0. They haven’t lost in the MLS since August 3rd and are currently on a seven-match unbeaten streak in the league, with a 3-2 win in their last match against Colorado Rapids.

The hot form of Los Angeles FC has cooled, with the team winless in their last four games, including a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Minnesota United FC. Despite this, sportsbooks has odds on Los Angeles FC winning that match opening at -250. They certainly believe the sheer quality of the LA roster including MLS top scorer Carlos Vela is enough to get out of their slump and get back to winning ways against Toronto FC.

Odds on Toronto FC continuing their unbeaten streak with a win against Los Angeles FC open at +550, according to sportsbooks. They haven’t been given much of a chance by sportsbooks whose odds on a tie between the clubs open at +400.

The Talisman of Los Angeles FC and Toronto FC

Carlos Vela, who is in the conversation of the best player in the MLS, realistically between him and the legend that is Zlatan Ibrahimović, has taken his game to another level since joining Los Angeles FC last year from Real Sociedad.

Vela had a good season last year in what was Los Angeles FC’s first season of existence, in which he scored 14 goals in 29 MLS matches. He’s turned it up not a notch but truly another level this season with 28 league goals in just 27 league matches. He’s contributed 15 assists as well, proving his worth as a goal scorer and playmaker.

He’s led LA to the best overall record in the league, qualification for the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League and almost certainly the MLS Supporters’ Shield. Los Angeles will be the favorites to win the MLS Cup when the competition begins, and Vela has the potential to lead his team to the MLS holy grail in just their second season of existence.

Toronto FC also has a player who makes equal contributions in scoring and making goals. Alejandro Pozuelo who arrived at the club last year as a replacement for Toronto FC’s greatest ever player in Sebastian Giovinco and had some big shoes to fill in Giovinco’s absence.

He’s done a commendable job so far, alongside Jozy Altidore, leading Toronto currently to 4th in the Eastern Conference with Pozuelo as their top scorer with 11 goals in the league with 11 assists, making him and Vela the only two players in the league to reach double figures in goals and assists this season.

Therefore, sportsbooks odds on Vela netting for the 29th time this season opens at -250. Pozuelo’s odds to score a 12th league goal open at a modest +188.

A game that I believe will be filled with goals with Toronto making up for their loss to Canadian rivals Montreal Impact with a win against the best team in the league. It’s a gutsy decision to bet on Toronto, but I think they’ll have just enough to beat Los Angeles.
