The only two teams left with perfect records this season, Liverpool and Arsenal battle at Anfield hoping to secure three more points
Liverpool have made an ideal start to the season. Winning their first two games of the season, albeit a late scare from Southampton. They added another piece of silverware with the UEFA Super Cup winning 5-4 on penalties against a resilient Chelsea side.
Liverpool have now opened up the possibility of becoming the first English club to win the International treble, having already won the UEFA Champions League in May, the UEFA Super Cup last week and are competing in the FIFA Club World Cup in December; where they enter in the semi-finals of the competition.
They now face their biggest test of the 2020 Premier League season on Saturday, facing off against Unai Emery’s Arsenal. Sportsbooks have Liverpool as the overwhelming favorites to win the game at -200. It’s with reason as Liverpool last lost a game at home in the Premier League in April of 2017. Manager Jurgen Klopp has succeeded into making Anfield a Premier League fortress but a European one at that.
Despite Arsenal also winning their first two games of the season, their reputation at Anfield precedes them which is why sportsbooks have Arsenal winning the match at +475. The last fixture between the two sides at Anfield began brightly for Arsenal who took the lead in the 11th minute through Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The game soon turned sour as Liverpool hit four in the first half and one more in the second half to complete the rout at 5-1.
Liverpool’s Anfield Domination. Liverpool vs. Anfield Odds on a Tie?
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last eight fixtures against Arsenal in all competitions, winning four and drawing four. Jurgen Klopp seems to love playing Arsenal, as he’s faced Arsenal seven times in the Premier League winning four and drawing three since becoming Liverpool manager in October of 2015.
Sportsbooks has a tie between the two teams at +360 and may be worth a bet since four of their last eight meetings ended up as a tie.
This particular meeting has been one of fun for Liverpool’s three all-world forwards, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Firmino hit his first and only hattrick for Liverpool in the 5-1 rout in December 2018, while Mane and Salah both added one goal each. All three forwards have netted in every fixture they’ve played against Arsenal at home since joining Liverpool, along with Firmino netting first in all those fixtures.
Sportsbooks have taken advantage of the exploits by the Liverpool forwards as they have Roberto Firmino scoring first in the Saturday fixture at +450. In my opinion, this is a bet absolutely worth taking, considering Firmino’s record against Arsenal and the sparkling form he’s shown early on this season.
Sportsbooks also have Mane and Salah to score anytime during the game at +120 and +105. Not great odds, but a slight profit is available for those bets.
Fans, the media and sportsbooks have about the same idea. Liverpool will surely win this game against an albeit, improved Arsenal side, however the strength of Liverpool’s trident and the power of Anfield will prove too strong for Arsenal.
