Harry Gagnon’s Thursday Night Football Prop Bet for Week 9
The Game:
San Francisco 49ers at the Arizona Cardinals
The Play:
Game Total Points: Cardinals UNDER 17 (-110)
The San Francisco 49ers are one of only two undefeated teams left in the NFL and that’s mostly because of their defense. The Niners have given up more than 17 points just ONCE in their first seven games of the year. San Francisco is first in the league in total yards against and has posted a remarkable number in passing yards against as well; the Niners are giving up a paltry 128 yards per game through the air… and yes… it is also a league best.
That defensive attack is spearheaded by rookie Nick Bosa who already has seven sacks for 66 yards lost in his inaugural campaign. He is giving opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks fits while free agent pickup from Kansas City, Dee Ford, is also having a solid season with 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. San Francisco is giving up just 11 points per game and is coming on even stronger as of late; in their last four games, the Niners defense has given up zero touchdown passes, recorded five interceptions and collected 18 sacks. This includes a smothering outing against the Rams and QB Jared Off who produced just 78 yards passing while last week the 49ers made Panthers QB Kyle Allen to threw not just his first career pick, but two more after that.
The Cardinals on the other hand have been struggling on offense the last couple of weeks and rookie QB Kyler Murray has not thrown a touchdown pass in his last two games. Although the Cardinals went 1-1 in that span with a win against the Giants and a loss to the Drew Brees led Saints, Murray tossed for 224 yards combined in the last two weeks. If you are thinking about maybe they can get away with a running game led by David Johnson and Chris Edmonds, you might want to think again. They are severely banged up in the backfield as both Edmonds and Johnson are questionable for Thursday night’s game with one—if not both—dynamic running backs more than likely to miss the primetime matchup. This is going to be a Halloween game in front of a national audience and the Cardinals offense is going to get tricked all night while the 49ers enjoy their treats.
Prediction:
49ERS 20
CARDINALS 13
