Harry Gagnon’s Thursday Night Football Prop Bet for Week 10
The Game:
Los Angeles Chargers at Oakland Raiders
The Play:
1ST TEAM TO SCORE – RAIDERS -110
The Raiders are 4-4 this season, but are a spectacular 7-1 in scoring first in their games. The Raiders are moving up the list of NFL teams (13th total yards) in total offense as they head into this week’s battle against their intrastate rivals the Los Angeles Chargers. In those seven games where Oakland has scored first, they have done it in a variety of different ways: running back Josh Jacobs has scored two rushing touchdowns to open games, they have kicked two field goals to get on the board first, and Derek Carr has three passing touchdowns to crack the scoreboard goose eggs.
Carr is suddenly putting together a nice season, producing 2,000 yards passing and 16 total touchdowns through the halfway point of the year. One person to lookout for with our Thursday night prop bet on which team is going to score first, is ex-Charger’s wide receiver Tyrell Williams. Williams has five receiving touchdowns and might be worth a shot at a big play early in the game.
The Chargers have scored first in only one of their last five games and have really struggled getting out of the blocks in the first half. The Chargers are coming off of their most impressive game of the season, taking down the rolling Green Bay Packers. The Chargers had a nice game rushing on Sunday versus Green Bay but are still only 28th in the league running the ball. In their last five games, the Chargers didn’t score until the 2nd quarter against Chicago, had no first quarter touchdowns versus the Titans, and no points in the first half at all at home against the Steelers, and the same thing happened against the division rival Broncos. The Raiders meanwhile are getting off to nice starts in games and are averaging 14 points a game in the first half. I’m looking for that to continue on Thursday night football in Oakland.
PREDICTION: 1st Score of Game: Derek Carr hits Tyrell Williams in corner of endzone
