Harry Gagnon’s College Football Best Bet of Week 14
The Game:
Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Wolverines
The Play:
Over/Under 51.5
OVER 51.5 Total Points
The Michigan Wolverines come into this legendary rivalry the winners of four straight games in which they have scored 45, 38, 44, and 39 points, winning those games by a combined 119 points. Quarterback Shea Patterson is playing his best ball, tossing five touchdown passes against Indiana last week and four more in the game against instate rival Michigan State. The real key is quite simple; Patterson is finally getting help and production from his wide receiving corps.
Wide receiver Nico Collins has seven touchdowns on the year, including three coming in last week’s game. Donovan Peoples-Jones was hurt for almost half the season, but is apparently healthy now with touchdown receptions in each of the last two weeks and five total on the season. Peoples-Jones had eight scores a season ago, and is the guy I think Patterson and Wolverines Head Coach Jim Harbaugh will go to this Saturday in Ann Harbor.
On the other side, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been extremely impressive all season long. However, last week, they had a comparatively disappointing output only putting up 28 points versus Penn State. Their offense is too good to be denied in back-to-back weeks and I see them getting theirs and putting up some serious points on the scoreboard. Running back JK Dobbins should—by game’s end—have more than 1,500 rushing yards and will probably add to his 17 total touchdowns on the year. Add on top of that, Quarterback Justin Fields is electric running the ball and has 43 total touchdowns during this magical season for him.
This game last year was a complete offensive display as Ohio St won 62-39. That’s 101 points and, in fact, this rivalry has had 50 or more points scored in it every year since 2012. I’m looking for an offensive fireworks display in the Big House on Saturday.
The Prediction:
39 Ohio State Buckeyes
31 Michigan Wolverines
