The College Football Best Bet of Bowl Week: Boca Raton Bowl Over/Under
The Game:
The Boca Raton Bowl: SMU Mustangs vs. Florida Atlantic Owls
The Play:
Mustangs vs. Owls, Over/Under 70.5: OVER
The Boca Raton Bowl from the Sunshine State between the SMU Mustangs and the Florida Atlantic Owls should be a shootout on Saturday. The best thing for the Owls? They didn’t even have to pack a single bag as this bowl game will be played on their home field. Florida Atlantic comes into this game home; winning six in a row, including winning the Conference USA championship game over Alabama-Birmingham by 43 points.
Over that six–game run, the Owls are averaging more than 39 points a game. Their main two weapons on offense are quarterback Chris Robison and wide receiver Harrison Bryant. Robison has 28 total touchdowns on the season and Bryant accrued more than 1,000 yards receiving with seven scores.
The Mustangs of Southern Methodist, on the other hand, possess one of the most potent offenses in the country. They compiled the second most points in the American Athletic Conference (Memphis was first) while scoring 516 points in 12 games. SMU finished at 10-2 and the average score of the winning team in their games this year was 44. Quarterback Steve Buechele had a terrific season going for more than 3600 yards and 35 total touchdowns.
Running back Xavier Jones was a workhorse for the Mustangs with 23 total touchdowns and he is not alone; SMU has two stud producers at wide receiver as well. Receivers James Proche and Reggie Roberson combined for 1,900 yards while Proche had 14 touchdowns and Roberson displayed big play capabilities while averaging 19 yards a catch. Even the weather looks to be playing along; Saturday’s temperature could hit the 80’s and it will be extremely humid so look for both offenses to shine come late 3rd quarter under the Florida sun.
The Prediction:
41 SMU Mustangs
38 Florida Atlantic Owls
