Lions Running on Redskins in Harry’s Best NFL Prop Bet of Week 12
The Game:
The Detroit Lions at Washington Redskins
The Play:
1st Quarter Spread (Lions at -140)
We all know how awful the Washington Redskins are and how anemic their offense looks week to week, but you may not realize how even more pathetic there are in the first quarter of games. In Week 1 of the NFL season the Redskins shocked the Eagles and put up 10 points in the first quarter against them. Since that day, they have played nine games and Washington has scored a total of seven… that’s SEVEN (!!!)… total first quarter points in those nine games. In short, this is an awful, near historically terrible first quarter team.
If my math is correct—and I think it is—that’s eight games where they have been shutout in the first quarter. Amazingly, they possess an overall record in the first quarter of 2-5-3 overall. It was only one week, and it was his first career start, but Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins can’t seem to figure out defenses very or create plays on the offensive side of the ball behind a lackluster offensive line.

Meanwhile, whether the Lions go with veteran quarterback Mathew Stafford or his backup Jeff Driskel, both can provide early leads in games; as noted by the Lions 6-0-1 record in their last seven games in the first quarter. If Stafford can go, that would be the best scenario (2500 yards passing 19 TD Passes) but even if he still can’t because of a broken back, Jeff Driskel has shown he’s not too shabby as a backup. Last week at home against the Cowboys, Driskel picked up three total touchdowns and had 51 yards rushing. Overall, Driskel has almost 100 yards on the ground in his two weeks of work.
Detroit is 8th overall in the league in total yards from scrimmage and the Redskins are at the bottom of the league in total yards against where they are ranked 30th overall and dead last in passing yards allowed. I know many people aren’t that accustomed to these types of prop bets, but I think I’ve found an edge. Granted, the Redskins are so bad in so many places that you can make cases in numerous positions and numerous props that should work. For now though, we’ll keep it simple here and let the Lions make us money before we even get our hands on our first slice of pizza.
The 1st Quarter Prediction:
Detroit Lions 10
(a FG by Matt Prater and a touchdown toss by Driskal to Kenny Golladay)
Washington Redskins 0
