NFL Best Bet of the Conference Championships: Digging for Gold with the 49ers
Last week, Green Bay was extremely fortunate that the Seattle Seahawks didn’t decide to actually run legit offensive plays until the second half. Once Russell Wilson started to run with the ball, it allowed the offense to open up and Green Bay barely held on. On Sunday at Levi Stadium that will not be the case.
From beginning to end, the Niners will resemble the team that dominated the first half of the regular season. When these two teams met earlier this year the Niners rolled the Packers 37-8 and didn’t allow Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to do anything as he had just 104 yards passing for the entire game. I don’t see San Fran being as dominant because I actually do expect Green Bay to at least get some points… but that will be long after San Fran’s offensive weapons have already exploded. Green Bay was only 23rd against the rush this season and the Niners running backs—especially Tevin Coleman—looked spectacular last week (Coleman went for 105 yards on 22 carries, and two TDs).
What is scary is that receivers Deebo Samuel, Emmanuel Sanders and George Kittle didn’t have to do much of anything last week versus the Vikings and they still won going away by 17 points. In that first matchup, tight end George Kittle had 129 yards receiving and a 61–yard touchdown and I fully expect him to be heavily involved in the Niners offensive plans. Last week we saw signs of how awesome this Niners can be and this week I think they exploit the Packers throughout, resulting in a blowout in the bay area. All San Francisco will need is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to manage the game like he did last week and let the rest of his offense and the Nick Bosa-led defense to take over.
