Eric Rosenthal’s NFL Week 16 Best Bets Against the Spread: Why Cats are Good and Birds are Bad
The NFL playoffs are right around the corner and the results in Week 16 will go a long way in determining which seeds the top teams will secure.
With two weeks left, somehow only two playoff spots are up for grabs and my best picks against the spread involve both of those spots getting locked up or not.
Not only did my three underdog picks win against the spread in Week 15, but all three underdogs won their games outright. We look to build on that success and capitalize on some of the biggest games remaining this regular season
Best Bet ATS for NFL Week 16 No. 1: Tennessee Titans +3 vs New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees put up an absolute passing clinic against the Colts on Monday Night Football, finishing 29-for-30 for 307 yards and 4 touchdowns. At 40 years old, it’s incredible that he is able to put up record-setting numbers in Sean Payton’s offense.
Why do I not believe in the Saints offense against the Titans? With New Orleans playing at home in a dome and some random scheduling quirks, Drew Brees has played just one game outside in the past calendar year. That game happened to be in sunny Tampa Bay, Florida.
Week after week, New Orleans has had the best offensive conditions possible which accounts for more of their success than the betting public realizes.
Despite a loss that I predicted to the Houston Texans last Sunday, the Titans have been a completely different team with Ryan Tannehill than they were with Marcus Mariota.
Their offense is going to put some points on the board while slowing down Drew Brees. Betting on Ryan Tannehill is never a fun decision, but it’s the right one this week.

Best Bet ATS for NFL Week 16 No. 2: Dallas Cowboys -2 at Philadelphia Eagles
The NFC East stinks, but one of these two teams will wind up hosting a playoff game.
It’s not exact, but the winner of this matchup is extremely likely to be the one team from this division that makes the playoffs.
We’re all so accustomed to the Cowboys falling apart in big games, especially with the NFC East on the line. Who can forget all those Tony Romo moments where they fell just short?
For the first time in a long time, this year will be different. Despite Jason Garrett’s constant mishaps, Dallas is a much better team than the Philadelphia Eagles.
After losing to the Dolphins, Carson Wentz and crew barely got by the lowly New York Giants and Washington Redskins to keep their playoff hopes alive. If they played average or better teams, we’d be looking at a 5-game losing streak where the Eagles were underdogs by a touchdown or more instead of this game being almost a pick’em.
Injuries to wide receivers Alshon Jefferey and Nelson Agholar has led turnover machine Carson Wentz to have a troubling lack of offensive talent around him.
There are questions about Dak Prescott’s health leading into this game, but Dallas will feed the ball to Ezekial Elliot as many times as he can possibly handle in what is basically a playoff game.
100 yards and multiple touchdowns are realistic for Zeke as Carson Wentz will struggle against a Dallas defense that held the Eagles to just 10 points in week 7.
Best Bet ATS for NFL Week 16 No. 3: Arizona Cardinals +9 at Seattle Seahawks
I’ll keep this pick short and simple. Seattle is a far better team than Arizona, but the 49ers win over the Rams on Saturday Night means the Seahawks don’t have too much to play for.
They should escape with a victory because of their overall talent in their home stadium, but without tackle Duane Brown, they’ll be looking ahead to their Week 17 all-important showdown for the NFC West crown.
Kyler Murray will put up one of his better stat lines of the season and the Arizona Cardinals will likely fall short of victory, but stay competitive as they cover a 9–point spread.
