Eric Rosenthal’s NFL Week 13 Best Bets Against the Spread: Why Cats are Good and Birds are Bad
Most people like to bet with their hearts, and it is how they run into trouble. Week 12 had a couple of heart-warming stories when Duck Hodges and Dwayne Haskins both did enough to will their teams to victory. If you think I’m going to swerve into betting with my heart over my brain, you have another thing coming. Also, I have a pick that might surprise many of you. Let’s get to the Best Bets Against the Spread for NFL Week 13.
Best Bet ATS of NFL Week 13 No. 1: Carolina Panthers (-10) vs. Washington Redskins
The Redskins managed to pull off a miraculous 19-16 over the Jeff Driskel led Detroit Lions in Week 12, but gave us every reason to think betting against them this week is the right move.
Rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins looked completely lost, completing only 13 of his 29 pass attempts for a paltry 156 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
Steven Sims Jr. scored their only touchdown of the day with a 91-yard kickoff return, which is more of a fluke than a repeatable event. Washington looks like the worst team in football at the moment, with an extremely lucky win keeping the point spread lower than it should be this Sunday.
The Carolina Panthers had the opposite situation happen to them against the now 10-2 Saints last week. They did everything right to go win a game in New Orleans, including 3 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions from Kyle Allen, but a late missed field goal led to their 34-31 loss against the Saints.
Christian McCaffrey and company are going to rout the Redskins in a blowout as we take the spread at -10 and throw the Panthers Moneyline into any and all parlays or teasers.

Best Bet ATS of NFL Week 13 No. 3: San Francisco 49ers (+6) at Baltimore Ravens
The Game of the Year? Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have been obliterating teams, especially the past 4 weeks. After a 37-20 win over the Patriots, they’ve won 49-13 at the Bengals, 41-7 at home against the Texans, and 45-6 in Los Angeles on Monday Night Football against the Rams.
Due to these giant victories on national television, nobody wants to bet against a Baltimore team that has been covering the spread week after week and somehow hasn’t punted since week 9. I can’t blame them, but this is how you take advantage of the betting market which is overreacting to this recent dominance.
The San Francisco 49ers are 10-1, with their only loss being somewhat of a fluke in overtime against Russell Wilson in the Seahawks. Just last week they crushed the Green Bay Packers 37-8, showing they can do to good teams what the Ravens have been doing to everyone.
This feels like a potential Super Bowl matchup and a 6 point spread is just way too high. Look for a wild finish with this game being decided in the final 5 minutes. We’ll be happy to be on the side that’s getting 6 points as the clock ticks towards 0.
Best Bet ATS of NFL Week 13 No. 3: Cleveland Browns (-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers
For everything that has gone wrong for the Browns this season, their current 3-game winning streak has them sitting at 5-6, just one game outside of the playoffs. Earlier this season, Cleveland even beat the Baltimore Ravens 40-25, so we know they have potential.
This week they get to face 3rd string rookie quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges without his best two offensive weapons in James Conner and Juju Smith-Schuster.
Ideally, nobody on the Browns will smash the Steelers starting quarterback in the head with his own helmet this time around.
Odell Beckham Jr. finally looked like his old self last week, catching a 35-yard touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield. I expect more of the same from a Browns offense with weapons all over the field, and a two-headed rushing attack with Kareem Hunt back from suspension.
With a chance to put themselves squarely in the playoff hunt, I expect Cleveland to go into Pittsburgh and win this game, potentially by double digits. With little to no faith in Duck Hodges, the Browns are favorite bet in all of week 13
