2020 EPL Odds Preview Week 5
The international break has come to an end which means the return of glorious Premier League football and a dive into the EPL Odds and who remains as favorites to win the 2020 EPL Title.
As expected, Premier League champions Manchester City and Liverpool FC remain as the two frontrunners to win the 2020 EPL Title. City are the undisputed favorites with sportsbooks opening odds of them retaining the title at -250. Liverpool remain slight underdogs with odds of +250, according to sportsbooks.
Both teams ended week 4 of the EPL season with wins against Brighton and Hove Albion and Burnley, respectively. Manchester City face newly promoted Norwich City, who have surprised many with their free-flowing attacking play, which is not something you expect from a newly promoted side, however it’s been a breath of fresh air.
Liverpool come up against Newcastle United at Anfield, a bout they are expected to breeze through. Both teams are expected to win, remaining unbeaten so far this season and will continue a fascinating battle between two giants of English Football.
The EPL Odds and the Best of the Rest Looking to Capture the Title
Tottenham Hotspur have been a disappointment so far, it is still early in the season but instead of the expectation of challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for the title, they look set for just another race for the top four.
Tottenham ended the international break with a 2-2 draw with North London rivals Arsenal, a tie that felt like a loss due to Tottenham relinquishing a 2-0 lead. Sportsbooks have their updated odds on winning the 2020 EPL odds at +4000. That’s a plus +700 increase just from week 4 of the EPL season.
Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal have experienced a mixed season so far, winning two, losing one and drawing one. The addition of record signing Nicolas Pepe has improved them, but he remains without a goal and looks like he does need time to adjust to the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
Sportsbooks has the odds on Arsenal winning the EPL Title at +6600. That’s something Tottenham fans can celebrate.
Their London rivals Chelsea aren’t faring too much better, worse in fact. Under Frank Lampard, Chelsea are undergoing a rebuilding phase, putting young players like Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount in prominent positions in the team, a strategy that has not been used under owner Roman Abramovich’s 16-year tenure of the club.
Therefore, sportsbooks has Chelsea winning the 2020 EPL Title at +12500, the worst odds out of the top 6. Chelsea are usually a title contender, but it will take a few years before Chelsea become a powerhouse in English Football again.
Manchester United have been in dire form since March 2018. They’ve played 16 matches in all competitions since then and have won just three. Their start to the Premier League season hasn’t exactly been encouraging after spending £50 million Aaron Wan-Bissaka and making Harry Maguire the most expensive defender of all time, spending £80 million to bring him to Old Trafford.
Sportsbooks therefore have Man United winning the 2020 EPL Title at +10000, an increase of +5000 since week 4.
In all honesty, Liverpool and Manchester City are the only clubs worth putting your money on since the rest of the top 6 have been disappointments. A substantial bet on Liverpool to win could pay out well since they are not favorites, however I’m sure that the unpredictability of the Premier League will have us surprised for next week.
