Los Angeles Lakers Preview
Searching for an offensive rhythm after shooting just 35.2 percent in a 105-86 loss to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers will aim for improvement Thursday when they meet the Houston Rockets.
The Lakers, who already have clinched the Western Conference’s best record, are hoping for a boost from Anthony Davis, who scored just nine points against the Thunder, matching his second-lowest output as a Laker. Dwight Howard (right knee soreness) sat out Wednesday, and Los Angeles remains without Rajon Rondo (broken right thumb).
The Lakers are 1-1 against the Rockets this season with LeBron James averaging 24.5 points, 13.5 assists and seven rebounds those contests. Los Angeles has dropped 18 of the past 23 meetings with Houston.
Houston Rockets Preview
After taking their first defeat in the NBA bubble on Tuesday, the Houston Rockets will look to rebound Thursday as they face the Los Angeles Lakers.
Guard Russell Westbrook registered just 15 points in Houston’s 110-102 loss to Portland on Tuesday, ending his league season-high streak of 36 successive games with at least 20 points. He is listed as questionable for the Lakers game due to a bruised right quadriceps. Backcourt mate James Harden has scored 47 points in two games since erupting for 49 points against Dallas on July 31.
Harden is shooting just 9-for-29 from 3-point range since the restart. After tallying a season-high 22 points against Portland, reserve Jeff Green has finished in double figures in five of his past seven games.
