New York Yankees Preview
Yankees slugger Aaron Judge will look to continue pummeling opposition pitching Thursday when New York concludes a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Judge launched his seventh homer of the young season Wednesday in the opening game of a doubleheader, an 11-7 Phillies win. The Yankees took the nightcap 3-1. Judge has hit safely in eight straight games, going 11-for-30 (.367) in that span. C Gary Sanchez, on the other hand, is just 2-for-27 this year after going 0-for-2 in the second game Wednesday.
Lefty Jordan Montgomery (1-0, 1.59 ERA) will start Thursday, coming off a win his season debut Friday vs. Boston. He will be facing the Phillies for the first time in his career.
Philadelphia Phillies Preview
Zach Eflin will make his first start of the season on Thursday night against the New York Yankees, having lost two turns in the rotation because of the club’s coronavirus-related postponements. Eflin fired seven shutout innings in his only previous outing against New York, earning a win in 2018.
As for the Phillies’ offense, J.T. Realmuto reached base four times in the opener of the Wednesday doubleheader against the New York Yankees, collecting two hits and two walks. Realmuto is 6-for-20 (.300) with two homers in five games. Andrew McCutchen, however, is off to a slow start.
The 2013 National League MVP is 1-for-17 (.059) after going hitless in three at-bats Wednesday, though he did draw his first two walks of the year.
