Boston Red Sox Odds
The Boston Red Sox’s thin rotation figures to be tested this weekend at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox used their two best starters, Nathan Eovaldi and Martin Perez, to get wins over the Mets the last two nights. They will use Ryan Weber, Zack Godley and Matt Hall as openers Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, putting the onus on the bullpen to bear the bulk of the inning.
For an example of the drop-off the Red Sox are experiencing with their starting pitching, consider who their starters were in the last trip to Yankee Stadium, Aug. 2-4, 2019: Eduardo Rodriguez, Chris Sale, Brian Johnson and David Price. Weber (0-1, 14.73 ERA) is 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA in three career appearance against the Yankees, all in relief.
New York Yankees Odds
Giancarlo Stanton is off to a terrific start in his third season with the New York Yankees. He hit two long homers in the season-opening series at Washington and then had three hits Thursday in New York’s 8-6 win at Baltimore. Stanton heads home off to an 8-for-16 start with six RBIs and a 1.600 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. Stanton is not the only Yankee to start quickly.
DJ LeMahieu, who was asymptomatic during his bout with coronavirus, did not start the season opener but is 7-for-17 (.412) through his first four games. Jordan Montgomery will be added to the roster to make his season debut Friday. He has a 4.40 ERA in three career starts against the Red Sox, but all three outings came in 2017.
