San Diego Padres Preview
The San Diego Padres have yet to lose back-to-back games this season as they complete a three-game series against the host Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The Padres sustained a 6-1 loss to the Rockies on Saturday as they had just three hits and combined for 10 strikeouts.
The run output was the club’s lowest of the season. First baseman Eric Hosmer (gastritis) was placed on the injured list Saturday, with the club offering no timetable for his return.
Right-hander Zach Davies gets the call Sunday. He gave up three runs (two earned) and five hits in five-plus innings while beating the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. He is 2-1 with a 3.48 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies and has silenced Charlie Blackmon (1-for-10) and Daniel Murphy (2-for-17).
Colorado Rockies Preview
Matt Kemp has always enjoyed hitting at Coors Field, and he looks to inflict more damage Sunday when the Colorado Rockies close a three-game series against the San Diego Padres. Kemp slugged his 22nd career homer at the ballpark — his first in a Colorado uniform — on Saturday to help the Rockies post a 6-1 victory. The blast traveled 457 feet.
Trevor Story also went deep for the fourth time this season. Colorado turns to right-hander Antonio Senzatela on Sunday as it attempts to win the series. Senzatela is 6-1 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 career appearances (six starts) against the Padres but has struggled with Wil Myers (7-for-18, one homer).
The 25-year-old gave up two runs and six hits over five innings while beating the Oakland A’s on Tuesday in his first start this season.
