Chicago White Sox Preview
Chicago White Sox ace right-hander Lucas Giolito will look to rebound from a rough Opening Day start — and ideally save a taxed bullpen — when Chicago closes a three-game series against the host Cleveland Indians on Wednesday. Giolito (0-1) allowed seven runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings during Friday’s loss to the Minnesota Twins.
The White Sox could use an extended outing from a starter after the relief corps logged a combined 10 innings while losing both games of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Indians. Jose Abreu raised his average to .318 with a 3-for-4 game in the nightcap that included his first home run of 2020.
Cleveland Indians Preview
The host Cleveland Indians are eyeing a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox as the teams close their series on Wednesday. The Indians are coming off Tuesday’s doubleheader sweep, propelled by a pair of two-hit games from first baseman Carlos Santana, whose nightcap included his first home run of the season.
Righty Zach Plesac gets the call for the Indians. As a rookie last season, Plesac was 8-6 with a 3.81 ERA in 22 starts covering 115 2/3 innings, but had trouble against Chicago. The White Sox defeated Plesac in both of his starts against him, reaching Plesac for a 5.25 ERA and two home runs.
