Chicago Cubs Preview
The Cubs will aim to close their four-game road series against the Reds with a victory Thursday behind Yu Darvish (0-1, 6.75 ERA). The veteran right-hander, who allowed three runs in four innings during a Saturday loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, is 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA in eight career starts against the Reds.
After taking the first two games of the series, Chicago lost 12-7 on Wednesday. Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant collected his first RBIs of the season when he hit a two-run double as part of a five-run, seventh-inning rally. He is batting just .091 (2-for-22) this season. David Bote has homered in back-to-back games.
Cincinnati Reds Preview
After rolling to a 12-7 victory Wednesday night, the host Reds can salvage a split of their four-game series against the Cubs with a win Thursday. Right-hander Luis Castillo (0-0, 1.50 ERA) will look to build off Saturday’s no-decision against the Detroit Tigers, when he allowed one run, six hits and one walk while striking out 11 in six innings.
Castillo is 4-2 with a 3.56 ERA in 10 career starts against Chicago. Right fielder Nick Castellanos smacked his fifth career grand slam Wednesday night. The team’s attack is heating up on the whole: After collecting 12 hits in the first two games of the series, Cincinnati had 10 on Wednesday.
