Chicago Cubs Preview
After completing a perfect five-game homestand with a two-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals, the Chicago Cubs will look to continue their streak Wednesday as they travel to Kansas City to open a two-game interleague series.
Right-hander Yu Darvish (1-1, 2.70 ERA) is set to start for the Cubs, winners of 9 of 11 to open the season. Darvish, who pitched six shutout innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday to earn his first victory of 2020, is 2-1 with a 2.34 ERA in five career starts against the Royals, with 37 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings.
Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward, who hit his first home run of the season Tuesday, has five hits and four RBIs in his past four games.
Kansas City Royals Preview
Losers of five straight overall — all to Chicago teams — the Kansas City Royals will return home Wednesday looking to end their skid as they open a two-game interleague series against the Chicago Cubs.
The Royals were held to two total runs while losing road games to the Cubs on Monday and Tuesday, but shortstop Adalberto Mondesi and catcher Salvador Perez provided consistency with four and three hits, respectively, in those contests.
Rookie left-hander Kris Bubic (0-1, 4.50 ERA) is slated to get the call for the Royals in his second career start. Pitching against the visiting Chicago White Sox on Friday in his major league debut, Bubic spaced three runs (two earned) on three hits in four innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
