Kansas City Royals Preview
Eyeing their first victory this season against a club from Chicago, the Kansas City Royals will try to salvage a split of a two-game series with the host Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.
The Royals were shut out 2-0 on Monday in the series opener on the heels of absorbing a three-game home sweep at the hands of the White Sox. Rookie right-hander Brady Singer will get the start Tuesday on his 24th birthday.
Through his first two major league starts, on the road against the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers, Singer is 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 10 strikeouts in as many innings. First baseman Ryan O’Hearn has five hits and three RBIs in his past four games.
Chicago Cubs Preview
The Chicago Cubs will aim to cap a 5-0 homestand Tuesday as they take on the Kansas City Royals to close a two-game interleague series. After two days off due to a stomach ailment, Kris Bryant smacked his first home run of the season in Monday in the Cubs’ 2-0 win.
Ace right-hander Kyle Hendricks (1-1, 4.05 ERA) will look to bounce back Tuesday from a rough outing in his most recent start, when he allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings in a Wednesday loss at Cincinnati.
Hendricks has made one previous career start against Kansas City, taking a no-decision in 2015 after spacing two hits, two walks and nine strikeouts in six shutout innings. Javier Baez has an RBI in three consecutive games.
