Baltimore Orioles Odds
This matchup hasn’t been a great one for the Orioles in recent seasons. They’ve won 10 of 38 games against Boston since the start of the 2016 season. The rebuild remains very much on in Baltimore. Note the team is turning to a non-roster invitee Tommy Milone. Milone stands in for John Means, who begins the season on the injured list. The Orioles finished last season 54-108.
Milone, on his seventh team in 10 major league seasons, draws a tough assignment. The Red Sox have five of the six players who belted 20 home runs for the team last season still on the roster.
Boston Red Sox odds
Nathan Eovaldi makes his first Opening Day start on Friday, and the 30-year-old right-hander knows he was the third choice – behind injured ace Chris Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez. Rodriguez is still recovering from the team termed “minor complications” from the coronavirus.
The Orioles hammered Eovaldi last year, scoring eight runs in two starts in which he totaled seven innings pitched. But Eovaldi likes the underdog role and sniped this week that too many pundits are “sleeping on us.”
Part of the reason the Red Sox aren’t in the usual position as one of the AL East favorites is turnover on the roster. Gone are manager Alex Cora, former AL MVP Mookie Betts and right-hander Rick Porcello.
